Heat Setting

The process of imparting dimensional stability of fiber, yarn, fabrics or garments with successive heating and cooling in dry and moist condition is called heat setting.
Level of heat setting may classify:
  1. Temporary set.
  2. Semi-permanent set.
  3. Permanent set.
Object of heat setting:
  1. To make the yarn, fabric dimensionally stable.
  2. To remove shrinkage of fabric.
Disadvantage of heat setting:
  1. Fiber becomes stiff.
  2. Crystallinity increase but dye takes decrease.
