Steps to be taken prior and
during spinning and weaving:
- Fibers with cross section other than circular fibers with dumb-bell cross section are the best to minimize pilling.
- Longer staple length, coarser fibers, higher extensibility etc restrict the slippage of the fibers and hence control the tendency of pill.
- The common suitable blends of polyester and cellulosic fibers in order to decrease the pilling are 67/33, 80/20, or 50/50.
- Higher proportion of short fibers in a yarn is another major cause of such fault. The combing process is thus essential in order to avoid this defect.
- Coarser count, hard twist, lower hairiness of the yarn is desirable to control pilling.
